2027 Recruiting Roadmap

A Year-by-Year Guide for Players and Families

For the class of 2027, recruiting is starting to come into focus. College coaches are beginning to track your progress, but most of you still have time to develop and stand out. The key is to build the right habits now - so when exposure opportunities arrive, you’re ready.

The Big Picture

Recruiting doesn’t happen overnight. Coaches evaluate players over years, not weeks. As a 2027, you need to balance development (getting bigger, faster, stronger) with exposure (being seen at the right events). This is the year to lay your foundation and put yourself on the radar.

Fall 2024 – Sophomore Year Begins

  • Academics first: Your GPA starts now. Aim for at least a 3.5 to keep doors open.
  • Strength training: Commit to a consistent program—mobility, speed, and functional strength.
  • Edge testing: Establish baseline measurables (60-yard dash, exit velo, throwing velo, pop times).
  • Recruiting awareness: Follow programs on social media, start learning about schools that fit your goals.

Winter 2024/25 – Building Tools

  • Skills video (optional): Not every sophomore needs a polished video yet, but you can record clean practice clips to show progress.
  • Fundamentals matter: This is the time to refine mechanics, swing, footwork, and arm care.
  • Strength & size: Growth in the weight room this winter sets the stage for summer velocity and bat speed gains.

Spring 2025 – Varsity Exposure

  • Compete at the highest level available: If you’re on varsity, it’s a chance to test your skills. If not, dominate JV. Coaches notice performance relative to opportunity.
  • Consistency: Show steady improvement. For pitchers, it’s command + velo. For hitters, it’s consistent barrels. For catchers, it’s leadership + defense.
  • Begin outreach: Short, professional intro emails to a few schools of interest can put you on the radar.

Summer 2025 – First Big Recruiting Window

  • Trosky ID Camps / PBR Showcases: Summer is your chance to get measurable exposure.
  • Play on the right teams: Travel with a program that gets you in front of college coaches.
  • Video matters now: By the end of this summer, have a clean skills video to send out.
  • Learn communication: Start emailing coaches before events with your schedule. Follow up after with results and highlights.

Fall 2025 – Moving Into Junior Year Prep

  • Narrow your focus: Identify a realistic range of schools based on current measurables.
  • Show growth: Coaches want to see that you’re improving year over year.
  • Stay patient: Few sophomores commit this early, but being on radars now sets you up for junior-year opportunities.

Key Takeaways for 2027s

  1. Academics are just as important as baseball—keep GPA strong.
  2. Get measurables early—speed, strength, and metrics help coaches evaluate potential.
  3. Don’t rush it—this is still a development-heavy year. Focus on growth.
  4. Exposure with purpose—play in the right events, not every event.
  5. Lay the foundation—what you do this year sets up your critical junior year.
