How to Get Recruited

Recruiting doesn’t start with exposure - it starts with preparation.

College coaches don’t just recruit talent; they recruit players who know how to communicate, follow up, and present themselves like future student-athletes.

At Trosky Arizona, we teach players how to take control of their recruiting process - from building a quality video to writing the right kind of email and using social media strategically.

This isn’t about luck or connections. It’s about having a plan and executing it the right way.

1. Start with a Strong Foundation

Before you reach out to coaches, make sure your information is clear and accurate. Every message or profile should include:

  • Full name, graduation year, position(s), height, weight, GPA, and test scores (if available)
  • Links to your video and social profiles (PBR, PG, YouTube, or Twitter)
  • Contact info for your current coach or program

Tip: Coaches receive hundreds of emails a week. Make it easy for them to evaluate you in one click.

2. Create a Simple, Effective Highlight Video

Your video is often your first impression. Keep it clean, short, and focused on the tools that matter.

  • Length: 3–5 minutes max
  • Format: Landscape (horizontal), clear lighting, steady camera
  • Include:
    • Hitting: 8–10 swings showing setup, swing path, and ball flight
    • Defense: Ground balls, throws, game reps where possible
    • Pitching: 12–15 pitches (FB, off-speed, from multiple angles)
    • Running: 60-yard dash or home-to-first with visible timing

3. Write the Right Kind of Email

Your first message to a college coach should be short, professional, and personal.

  • Use the coach’s name and reference something specific about their program (not a copy-paste).
  • State who you are, where you play, and what makes you a potential fit.
  • Include your video link and contact information.

Example:

Coach Smith,

My name is Josh Smit, a 2027 OF from Liberty High School and Trosky Arizona Baseball. I’m very interested in your program because of its strong player development and academics.

Here’s my video link and recent metrics. I’d love to stay on your radar for future opportunities.

4. Use Social Media the Right Way

Coaches check your Twitter and Instagram - not just for stats, but for maturity, consistency, and effort.

  • Keep posts focused on your progress, academics, and team culture.
  • Highlight clean clips, practice videos, and game updates.
  • Avoid negative comments, drama, or reposting highlight accounts that don’t represent your game.

Remember: Your online presence should match the player and person coaches want in their locker room.

5. Communicate Like a Pro

If a coach responds, reply within 24 hours - politely, clearly, and with gratitude.
Ask smart questions about the program, development, and expectations.

Even if you’re not ready for that level yet, every interaction builds your network and confidence.

6. Get Evaluated, Then Adjust

The best recruiting plans start with honest feedback.

Trosky coaches evaluate every player’s tools and projection, helping you understand where your game fits - D1, D2, D3, NAIA, or JUCO.

Once you know your level, you can target the right programs with precision and purpose.

Every player’s journey is unique, but success always starts with a plan.
We’ll help you build yours - from video and outreach to on-field development and exposure.

Your journey starts with an honest conversation and evaluation.
